The main objective of the revitalization project for Victory Square (Plac Zwycięstwa) in Gryfice is to bring new life to the existing space by introducing new values, improving its connections with the surrounding urban fabric, and adapting it to the contemporary needs of residents. At present, the square, which functions as the town market, is fully paved and surrounded by modest rows of trees. This creates a large urban heat island and does not encourage everyday use of the space. Reversing this situation and refilling the market square with people was identified as the key priority. The introduction of greenery is intended to improve the microclimate and encourage more frequent use of the new spaces. At the same time, retaining the market square surface in altered proportions preserves the multifunctional and representative character of the place.
The project was developed in the spirit of the circular economy. A significant portion of the existing concrete paving has been retained. The paving blocks that are dismantled will be reused for other hardened surfaces. The substantial introduction of greenery is intended to have a positive impact on the local microclimate.
The analysis shows that Victory Square will be able to retain its primary function as a public space even after reducing the paved areas, and that the change in proportions will positively affect the perception of the space. The entire square has been divided into two parts: a new market square plaza as a multifunctional and representative space, and a green park area with walking paths and recreational zones. The division runs symmetrically along the east–west axis. Along the northern edge of the square, the location of a new multifunctional pavilion is proposed.
Within the study area covering the broader context of Gryfice, the redesigned market square has been identified as a focal point that crystallizes and organizes the functional structure of the town center. The main directions for further revitalization have been defined along the east–west axis, linking the city center with recreational areas of high potential along the Rega River. The master plan is based on two functional corridors: a service-oriented one running along the northern frontage of the market square, and an urban recreational corridor in the southern part. Both routes have their central points in the redesigned market square and converge into a riverside recreational corridor in the form of boulevards along the Rega River.
