2nd Prize. Competition concept
The proposal for the development of the center of Bolesławiec municipality aimed to present a vision of changes in shaping public spaces and contribute to the discussion on designing central areas within the municipality.
The development of the study area was carefully analyzed, taking into account important nearby landmarks such as the Holy Trinity Church, the Royal Tower, the Municipal Office building, the reservoir, and the historic building along the square. Based on their locations, visual and compositional axes were established, along with the layout of vehicular traffic and main pedestrian and cycling routes. The proposed design solutions aim to emphasize significant places for residents and expand the functional possibilities of using these facilities.
The concept organizes compositional and spatial relationships. A multifunctional square was designed, with its inner part separated from the streets by green strips. Clear zoning of the square was proposed. The square’s surface is divided into two zones: the western zone for diverse public activities with a hardened surface and the eastern zone characterized by greenery and an amphitheater. The design solutions also include calming vehicular traffic and utilizing a significant portion of the surface for pedestrian and vehicular pathways
