Competition Concept
The concept involves integrating into a complex context through a decisive architectural gesture by creating an urban accent at the Matejki/Grunwaldzka intersection and establishing an attractive forecourt with tall greenery in front of the main entrance. The designed structure is intended to harmoniously correspond with the surroundings and frame the northern entrance to the Johow quarters. The main entrances to the building are located on the square at Grunwaldzka and Matejki streets, opening the foyer space to the outside. The building, shaped like a grand piano, fills almost the entire property while maintaining a distance from valuable trees. The southern part of the building connects with the street fronts of Matejki and Skryta streets, and a passage has been created in the southwestern part linking Grunwaldzka and Skryta streets.
The building houses educational and cultural functions, including a multifunctional theater and performance space with a 400-seat audience, a chamber hall, an ambisonic hall, rehearsal rooms, artist facilities, and a restaurant. Additionally, the educational section of the project includes creating a zone for Artistic Violin Making and a research and development unit for the New Musical Practices Workshop along with laboratories. The concert halls have been set back from the facade for better acoustic comfort, and the roof has been transformed into a garden with an open jazz stage, shielded from street noise.
